Eymard Campbell Retreat House

The Retreat House at Halgashena, known as the Eymard Campbell Retreat House, was a visionary project initiated by Rev. Fr. Nilindra Gunasekera, SSS, the Provincial Superior at that time. With generous contributions from various benefactors, including other SSS Provinces, the endeavor commenced in 2004 and was officially inaugurated in 2005. Concurrently, the foundation stone was laid for the second phase, the Norman Pelletier Wing addition.

The Eymard Campbell Retreat House extends a warm welcome to individuals from diverse backgrounds, particularly religious individuals and priests, who seek solace and engage in their annual retreats. Additionally, the facility organizes programs, seminars, and workshops catering to laypeople.

Over the years, several SSS priests have served as Directors and Superiors at the Retreat House, including Frs. Sagara, Sudath, Marcus, Nesan, Anscar, and Hashendra. Presently, Fr. Dilan Fernando leads as the Superior and Director, with the valuable assistance of Fr. Gnananesan.

Located in Halgashena, the Eymard Campbell Retreat House serves as a spiritual haven for those in pursuit of retreat and reflection. Named after the esteemed Rev. Bro. Eymard Campbell, a distinguished spiritual leader and one of the province’s pioneering members from Australia, the facility offers a serene and tranquil environment conducive to deepening one’s spiritual journey.

Participants at the Eymard Campbell Retreat House can engage in a variety of activities and practices aimed at nurturing their spiritual well-being. These include guided meditation, prayer services, spiritual direction, contemplative walks, and opportunities for silence and solitude.
